Web Site Security Is Overlooked

July 6th, 2008

Hello All,

From our own experience, it’s easy to overlook web site security when building new sites. For those of you who use a managed / shared solution, you probably don’t have to worry about it. Most good hosts provide automated operating system patches, intrusion detection services, etc.
But what about those who want to run a dedicated site on their own machine?

There’s a lot to be said for a good system administrator. With background in windows / IIS based web sites, we were in a brand new world with php/linux based machines.

On my own, I set up a secondary site as a test; after all, how hard can it be?

I’ll admit this: it’s pretty darn complicated.

That’s why I found some help. We wholeheartedly recommend the folks at Prometheus Group for your security consulting needs. As a frustrated employee who had no idea what he was doing when it came to web site security, I found these folks to be extremely knowledgeable.
Don’t take site security for granted. Their flavor of secured linux (Atomic Secured Linux) works like a charm, and the team is always around to help.
